Do you ever just find yourself feeling bored of your hair and needing a change? My hair had grown a lot since my last hair cut and it had lost its shape entirely and lets be honest, it was driving me mad!! It didn’t matter what I did with it or how I styled it, it somehow never looked right! In turn, this meant I had lots of bad hair days and for the past couple of weeks I have just been throwing my hair up in a bun or ponytail to avoid having to style it at all costs. I am sure we have all been there, right?
I recently booked an appointment in my favourite hairdressing salon – Patrick Gildea Hairdressing, winner of the best salon in Ireland 2015/16 in RSVP magazine, based in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. On Tuesday after work I popped into Patrick Gildea Hairdressing for my much needed cut and colour. When I arrived at the salon I had a little chat with Kiera, my lovely hair stylist on this occasion. Kiera is extremely talented and professional at what she does, I had heard great reports from friends about her so I was delighted when I found out that she would be styling my hair. I showed her some images of hairstyles ( a few of Jessica Albas style!!) that I liked so that she could get a feel for what sort of look I wanted to go for and she also made some great suggestions. I have to say, this is an element that I really love about this salon, the staff take the time to sit down with you for a consultation and informal chat before diving in and getting to work. I think that this is really important as it ensures that both the client and hairdresser are perfectly clear about what they want to achieve and ultimately are on the same wave length. I will admit that I am a complete chicken when it comes to my hair!! I tend to play it safe and I am usually afraid to try something different or new in case it doesn’t suit me. On this occasion I knew I was in very safe hands so I told Kiera to go with what she thought would suit me.
If you have been following me on Facebook you would have noticed that I had put up a photo lately of my long hair and mentioned that I needed a change and asked for your advice. A lot of you suggested that I go darker and some were of the opinion I should keep the highlights. It was really hard to decide what to do but I honestly really appreciated your help and suggestions. I can be indecisive at times so I find getting other peoples opinions does really help. Naturally, I am a brunette but I did really love how the soft caramel highlight tones brightened up my entire face as opposed to my natural dark brown tone.
After – My new hair
In the end I decided to keep the highlights and Kiera toned down the blonder areas ever so slightly adding warmer caramel colours and shades of light brown throughout. Kiera was very helpful and had lots of great suggestions about what colours, style and cut would suit my skin tone and face shape. She was also a really good listener and I really enjoyed chatting to her about everything from fashion, fitness, blogging to upcoming weddings we both had coming up.
For some people getting a couple of inches off their hair is no big deal, but for me it was!! I am so pleased that Kiera convinced me to go shorter and to keep the highlights but freshen them up. I feel now that my hair looks WAY healthier as well as more stylish and chic. I always enjoy visiting this salon, the staff are always so attentive, friendly and professional. I am looking forward to my next visit already.
