Autumn Wedding | Steal my style

Autumn is my by far favourite season. I love everything about it but I especially love Autumn-Winter fashion.  I recently attended a beautiful Autumn wedding and today I want to share what I choose to wear with you as well as my style inspirations for an Autumn-Winter wedding.

I have always felt that Autumn weddings allow for a whole host of styles for wedding guests. The fashion ‘off season’ means you’re free to choose from spring-friendly shades or go glamorous in wintery glitters. As you know, I always enjoy getting my glad rags on and dressing up for special occasions.  Have a peak through my occasion wear look book for more inspiration.

At the end of October, our friends, the gorgeous couple Keith & Patricia, tied the knot at Castle Dargan Hotel in Sligo.  Everything on the day was just perfect from the hilarious priest, gorgeous venue at Castle Dargan and the delicious food to the entertainment. It was a great day and of course I had my eye on the style.  The style was on point and everyone looked fantastic.  Even the priest (who missed his calling as a comedian!!) commented that he had never seen a more stylish congregation.  I have to agree with him, everyone scrubbed up well! It was such a fun filled, special wedding and we were delighted to be a part of it.

Now, lets talk fashion………..

Steal My Style | Autumn wedding styling

The week before this wedding I found out that I was going to New York during my midterm break.  With this in mind I decided not to splash out on a new dress for the wedding and decided to save my money for our trip to NYC.  I decided to re-wear a dress I wore to a family wedding last December.  I always love dressing up and styling outfits but I am the sort of person that doesn’t really plan outfits too far in advance.  Instead I go looking for something last minute and thankfully this usually works out for me.

Last November my sister Lisa bought a dress on ASOS for a family wedding we were attending. Typically, I hadn’t chosen a dress to wear to the wedding at this stage!  Luckily for me, Lisa didn’t like it when she tried it on and she asked me if I would like to try it on!!! It fitted perfectly and I felt both comfortable and glamorous in it.  My sister always seems to come to my rescue!! Just a few weeks ago I didn’t have a dress to wear for my birthday night and she popped into my room with a gorgeous embellished dress for me to wear just hours before we were due to go out! You can read more about this embellished dress and how she came to the rescue here.  Lots of people always say to me that Lisa has incredible style and good taste and I have to agree.  Her room truly is like a boutique.  People regularly ask her where she purchased items as she has a really quirky and original sense of style and likes to add a touch of her personality through quirky accessorizing to her outfits.  Although she works as an occupational therapist, I have always said that she should have gone to fashion college as she is extremely creative and artistic with a keen eye for fashion and styling.  Lisa is definitely one of my style inspirations and I always go to her for advice if I am not sure about a garment or accessory I want to wear!

Once again, I have her to thank for this dress!

While wearing this dress I felt confident and comfortable.  I  felt that this dress was also wedding appropriate.  It is from ASOS and is no longer available but if you like this style of dress you can find similar styles here, here and here. I don’t usually tend to wear dresses that are near ankle length but I thought that this length looked quite elegant, paired with a pair of nude heels which gave me the added height I needed.  A few people at the wedding commented that my outfit had touch of Hollywood glamour to it.  I love a little sparkle around this time of yearI and I really loved the embellished sweetheart neckline bodice which adds a bit of pizazz to this outfit.

I kept accessories simple as I felt there was really a lot going on already with the sparkly bodice.  I added a pair of sparkly earrings which my friend Mairead bought for me as a gift, wore my go to nude heels (which I have wore to death at this stage as they are so comfy & great for dancing!!) and finished the look off with silver toned embellished clutch from accessorize.  I had this stunning bracelet on,which is a birthday gift I received but decided to take it off as I felt there was too much bling going on! Less is more.  This faux fur stole kept me warm for the church ceremony, it is my mums and she bought it in River Island last Christmas. If you like this you can find something similar here, here or here.  I did my own makeup and Locks and Lace who recently opened up their new hair salon in Strandhill, in Sligo did my hair.  I went for a simple loose up style with a side crown braid.

I hope this has offered you some style inspiration if you are attending an Autumn-Winter wedding.

Enjoy playing dress up!
