Is it too early?! I always feel a little strange bringing up anything Christmas related when we are not yet into the month of December! I usually wait until the first weekend in December to decorate the house and put up our tree! I really enjoy decorating and the buzz in the lead up to Christmas. It feel’s like Christmas is starting earlier each year. I don’t know about you but I am definitely starting to get into the festive spirit, especially after attending a fantastic event yesterday at Feehily’s Florist in Sligo. At this Christmas decor workshop, talented florist Michael who is the director and owner of Feehily’s florist, based in Sligo, taught us how to make beautiful little mini tree’s and shared his top tip’s and styling trick’s for decorating your house for Christmas.

My beautiful invite to the event…
Feehily’s Christmas Classes 2016..
Feehily’s florist’s run seasonal workshop’s and classes every Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. These workshop’s are very popular and they last five week’s. Yesterday evening, I attended one of Feehily’s Florist Autumn-Winter classes at their fabulous show-room at Carraroe in Co.Sligo. Two week’s ago I received the most beautiful invite ( see image above) which was hand delivered right to my front door. It consisted of a box filled with fresh red roses, pretty Christmas decoration’s and a little scroll sealed with a red ribbon with my invite details for Feehily’s Autumn-Winter classes and upcoming workshop’s inside. What a beautiful and very unique invitation idea. It really made my day.
Feehily’s florist classes are a fantastic way to help you get into the festive spirit. It is a lovely opportunity to be creative and make something beautiful which you can bring home to decorate your house in time for Christmas. As an art teacher and artist, I am surrounded by creativity daily, which I love. But, a lot of the time as a teacher, I am on the other side of the desk instructing and guiding my student’s with their art project’s and creations. This time, I was the student and it was so enjoyable to sit back and have the chance to create something that was a bit outside of my comfort zone. I must say, on arrival to the event, my eye’s were darting back and forth checking out all of the Christmas decor, glitz, glamour and festive sparkle at the Feehily’s florist show-room which was transformed into a winter wonderland. It was truly magical. Michael obviously has exquisite taste so I expected nothing less. The lovely Alma greeted all of the workshop attendee’s on arrival and offered us a hot cup or tea/coffee to warm us up. Then we were escorted upstairs to the workshop area to begin our creative class with Michael.
To begin, Michael gave a step by step demonstration, talking us though how to make our very own mini Christmas tree’s. Michael showed us all of the material’s that we would be using, all of which we had on each of our work station’s. We were given a hand-out with a list of all of the material’s that we would use when making our mini tree creation’s. While he was demonstrating how to make one of these beautiful festive tree’s, Michael entertained us with his funny stories and spoke about some of his upcoming project’s, Christmas wedding idea’s, Christmas home decor tip’s and shared his inspiration’s and story. Michael is one of Ireland’s top florist’s who travel’s all over the world to florist showcase’s and goes on regular international buying trip’s to seek inspiration. He explained that he like’s to stay ahead of the game in the florist industry and find’s these trips help him inspire new idea’s which he can bring home and incorporate into his own work. Christmas is Feehily’s busiest time of year with winter wedding’s, late evening’s decorating front shop’s and local businesses as well as project’s decorating home’s across the north west. Micheal is extremely creative and talented and you only have to step inside his beautiful shop in Sligo town or show room at Carraroe to see the level of detail and skill in his work.
After the demo. we were asked to go to our own work station’s, where all of the supplies we needed were neatly laid out and ready for us to use. We got stuck in and after an hour or two we added the finishing touche’s like fake snow, red and gold bobble’s and sparkle’s to our very own little mini tree creation, which we got to bring home with us. Micheal was on hand to help and guide us and to answer any questions we had. I loved how interactive the workshop was with everyone chatting away to each other and asking lot’s of question’s. One lady I spoke to said that she travel’s up from Falcarragh in Donegal every week ( a 2hour drive!) to attend the workshop’s as she love’s them so much. A lot of the women in attendance were regular’s at Feehily’s annual seasonal classes and real pro’s. I loved their creations. I on the other hand, struggled a little at the beginning with twisting the wires around the tree and joked that floristry obviously want my forte! Once I got into the swing of it I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved picking up little Christmas decor tip’s throughout the class.
I would like to thank Feehily’s for inviting me along to such a wonderful, creative event. I can’t wait to attend the demo next week with amazing designer florist Joan Stam. This Feehily’s Christmas Flower Demonstration on the 22nd, 23rd or 24th of November in Feehily’s Carraroe showroom. The door’s open at 7pm sharp and the demo starts at 8pm. I was advised to be there early to get a good seat! If you would like to go, there are still some ticket’s available at €20 each. This include’s a mulled wine and mince pie reception to get you into the festive mood. Everything made by Joan on the night is raffled off at the end. Don’t miss this magical night. Booking is essential. To book call Alma on 0719159200.
Tomorrow evening they are holding their annual Christmas shop launch from 5-9pm at their show room in Carraroe. Everyone is welcome. Expect a mulled wine reception, mince pies, live music and Santa himself will be arriving at 6pm with his magical post box to collect the children’s santa letter’s! How cute is that!! This sound’s like a night not to be missed. Feehily’s are also currently running an amazing competition on their Facebook page giving customer’s a chance to win a package to get your entire home decorated worth €1000!
